Blazing Salmon Toast Skagen à la Carelia Grill
Shall we just say that blazing salmon is truly versatile? It can be served as a delicious part of a main course or as a mouth-watering starter or snack. Inspired by the traditional Swedish Toast Skagen, we decided to try our own modified version of it. Instead of shrimps, we combined succulent blazing salmon and crispy toast. Unsurprisingly, the end result was exactly what we expected: a whole plate full of deliciousness. Go ahead and try it out yourself! 😋
makes 4 servings
INGREDIENTS
150 g crème fraîche
2 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp mustard
400 g blazing salmon (see the instructions here)
1 small onion, finely chopped
50 ml finely chopped dill
50 ml finely chopped chives
1–2 tbsp lemon juice
a sprinkle of ground black pepper
lettuce
4 slices of toast
2 tbsp butter
for garnish: fresh dill (and a piece of blazing salmon)
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the blazing salmon and allow to cool down. Stir together crème fraîche, mustard and mayonnaise in a bowl. Add chopped onion, herbs and spices, and stir until smooth. Add blazing salmon and stir gently to avoid breaking the salmon's structure. Toast the bread slices in a dry pan and brush with butter. Place a lettuce leaf on a toast and spoon some salmon mixture on the top. Finally, garnish with dill and, if desired, a small piece of salmon.
TIP: Try using the salmon mixture as a dip instead of a coating. Slice the toasted bread into sticks and pour the salmon mixture into a small bowl for easy dipping!
